Le Diamant Cruise Liner
Today, 22nd July 2011, Galway Harbour welcomed ashore passengers from the French registered passenger vessel Le Diamant. The vessel is on a cruise of the British Isles which commenced in St. Malo, France in early July.
The vessel arrived at the anchorage off Mutton Island and passengers were taken on tours of the city, Connemara and Aillwee Caves in Co. Clare. Le Diamant is the first such vessel from operators Cie du Ponant to arrive in Galway.
Le Diamant is expected back into Galway on the 3rd of August following the Spirit of Adventure which is calling to Galway on the 27th July.
Paul Carey, Chairman of the Harbour Company, said the arrival of 3 passenger vessels into Galway this summer and 7 booked in 2012 is the result of a targeted campaign of the Galway Harbour Company over the last two years. We are beginning to see the fruits of this campaign and look forward to growing Galway’s association with the return of the majestic passenger liners to Galway.
The passenger Liner The World has confirmed for 8th & 9th August 2013 which is a great endorsement of Galway as a cruise destination he said.
It further confirms our belief that Galway as a cruise destination has all the attractions both in the city and region to make the port a welcome home port for this kind of tourist business said the Chairman.
